A Different Take On Mainstream

Yes. I also went to Universal Studios with my sister. But if I had written about that, we’d be here all day.

Salutations people of Earth!

I am currently sitting in a bridal room getting ready for my BFF’s wedding. Yes. That sentence is as unreal as it seems. I also forgot to cut my nails so they are a little long, but TMI. There is so much that happened this month that I don’t even know where to start. From my best friend’s engagement, to my upcoming move to Boston University– this month has literally been crazy. So I’m just going to get into it people–the best of August. ONWARD.

For one, I got nominated for a Liebster Award by the effervescent Dominique, from Fashioned By Pluche. It was a humongous surprise for me, when she notified me that she had nominated me for such an award–BUT DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE KID DID? She went ahead and wrote a brilliant analytical essay about my blog, dissecting my good points in wondrous research-like fashion. It was quite academic and I admit, it got me teary eyed. For those who may not be familiar with Dominique’s hilarious writing, she is a Dutch blogger who writes about everything from fashion to philosophy in such a candid, meticulous way, that when you read her blog you feel as if you are reading the most hilarious PHD thesis you will ever come across. She is so brutally honest both with herself, and with the world–and she writes about her convictions in the most informed and thought out way– she even has sources. But she does it with such a flair and with so much personality, that it’s honestly such a pleasure to read.

For those who have not heard of the Liebster award, it is an award from bloggers, given to other bloggers, who have under 200 followers. In this case we’re talking bloglovin. (hint hint you can follow me HERE).

The next thing that really made my August was Alchemist Coffee Project. For one, it is the perfect little urban hipster nook to type importantly on your Apple Mac as you sip some coffee and wear a beanie on your head. Yes, it’s one of those places. The walls are all bricked, the light fixtures are bulb-y and vintage, and there are quirky objects displayed on minimalist looking wall shelves. So basically, it’s my home away from home. The thing is, I didn’t go there for the coffee, or even the hipster ambiance–I kept coming back because the baristas were just so friendly. I don’t know about you, but I absolutely hate it when you find a cool coffee shop, and the waiters are just as snooty as the name of your coffee. It isn’t fun when you walk into a place for the 147th time– so you know the baristas know who you are–but they greet you with the same glazed, half there expression they just greeted the slightly senile old lady right in front of you.

The baristas at Alchemist, however, always have something nice and personal to say to you, whether its a genuine “how are you?’, a compliment on your shirt– or even just a warm smile. There was one specific barista who I made friends with, but thinking on it, I don’t think she’d want her name mentioned in such a public setting, so I ain’t gonna tell you who she is. Even so– the place is open until 10 PM every night, and has really fast internet, so if you’re in LA, I recommend you check it out. (It’s in Koreatown for some location context).

The next company I finally got around to looking at was Zaful. I had heard so many great things from so many bloggers about Zaful– how cute the clothes were, and how cheap they were– but I never got around to looking at it myself, until this month. Honestly, Zaful really is a great company, and I’m not just saying it– they really are. They have unique clothes with both classy and quirky designs that you wouldn’t normally find for the prices they offer. I mean seriously, I really want that stereo purse. I have never seen anything like it for so cheap a price. And the coat? The price is half of what you would pay in Forever 21, and Forever is quite cheap my friends. Also, their mini dresses.
